A few of the photos, particularly the black and whites, are from an Ebony Magazine article on Flood from the late 60s. The others have been on other baseball sites for years, and I'm not sure about where they originated, though I suspect they may be from Sports illustrated. I wish I could be of more assistance Emily.

Dear Mr. Matthews,
I am doing a history project on Curt Flood and I would like to use the photographs you have on this page. However, I need to trace these pictures back to the originals. Where did you get these photos?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Sincerely,
Emily M.

Unless some other guys made it to the minor league level,Angel, I don't know any other Major Leaguers from that team other than the three you probably know about - Bob Watson, Willie Crawford, and Bobby Tolan. I'll see what I can find out. Also, glad to hear about your coaching background. Thanks for keeping the game alive!!!

THANKS ERIC, REALLY APPRECIATE THE QUICK RESPONSE. BEING A FREMONT ALUMINI AND ALSO PLAYED BALL FOR FREMONT IN THE 89-92 SEASONS, I'M VERY INTERESTED IN ALL OF THE TALENT THAT CAME OUT OF SOUTH CENTRAL. I JUST LEFT FREMONT HIGH (AFTER 18YEARS OF SERVICE) AND ALSO HELPED COACH THE J.V. TEAM IN THE MID 90'S. LOOKING FOWARD TO YOUR ARTICLE. WILL CHECK IN ONCE IN A WHILE, BUT JUST IN CASE, COULD YOU SEND ME A QUICK EMAIL TO REMIND ME WHEN YOUR DONE. IM SURE OZZIE SMITH AND EDDIE MURRAY WILL BE PART OF YOUR ARTICLE. IS IT TRUE THAT EDDIE MURRAY WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A FREMONT PATHFINDER INSTEAD OF A LOCKE SAINT? WELL, ONCE AGAIN, THANKS. P.S WOULD YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW, HOW MANY OF THE 1963 FREMONT BASEBALL PLAYERS MADE IT TO THE PRO'S?

They're among the best ever, Angel, since they won a city title, but I still can't say they're the absolute best ever. The '79-80 Crenshaw team with Chris Brown and Darryl Strawberry was pretty strong as well. Also, Centennial High School in Compton had some really strong teams. Either way, it's amazing how much talent came out of South Central L.A. in the 60s and 70s. I'm finishing up an article right now on this very topic, so I hope you'll stop by again.

HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.... IS THE 1963 FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM, THE GREATEST HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM EVER ASSEMBLED? I WORKED AT FREMONT AND PLAYED BASEBALL THERE, AND WAS ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE HONORING OF THE 63' TEAM AT DODGER STADIUM BACK IN 2006(?), AND THIS IS WHAT I HEARD THE P.A. ANNOUNCER MENTION AS WE STEPPED ONTO THE FIELD. IS THIS CORRECT? I ACTUALLY HAD EVERY PLAYER ON THAT FIELD AUTOGRAPH A BALL FOR ME.

I was the bat boy for the Charleston Senators when Luke Easter came down to Charleston. He received a new pink Cadillac convertible as part of his contract. He was exceptionally polite and unassuming. He would always ask for items rather than tell or order. I wrote him a letter when I was in Vietnam , after he took a coaching job, (before getting out of baseball). He did not write me back. . Later , my father told me that he was not very literate. My father was the owner of the Senators at the period. I was very sad when I heard that he was shot in the robbery. From my experience, he was a true gentleman, not the egotistical or arrogant professional players that we now see.

Starlin is one of those rare talents and he's great at what he does best: playing the game. He sees the ball and strikes when the team needs him most, I love to watch him play!! Starlin, you're AWESOME!! Keep up the good work!!
